Burn Permits

Open burning within the City limits are not allowed (Municipal Code Chapter 4 Article 3 Section 4-302) except during the spring and fall clean up days, of which are set by the City of Blair and still require a burn permit. 

For residents outside the City limits you are allowed to burn after obtaining a burn permit from the Fire Department. To obtain a burn permit please stop by our South Fire Station Thursday nights after 6 PM or if fire staff are available stop in at our North Station from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Steps to utilize burn permit

  1. Obtain Burn Permit from a Blair Volunteer Fire Department officer.
  2. Before starting to burn contact Washington County 911 Dispatch Center NON-Emergency line at 402-426-6866 (on the permit as well) and ask to burn. The 911 dispatchers have the right to tell you no burning as they constantly are monitoring the weather for wind speed and dry conditions. 
  3. Ensure appropriate tools or water source are ready in case of the fire getting out of control.
  4. Light your burn.
  5. Contact Washington County 911 Dispatch Center NON-Emergency line at 402-426-6866 when burning is completed.
